To all prospective researchers
Genealogy: the family generation succession
research
In early Christian years,
started the recordings of royal family lines by the first chroniclers mostly
for political reasons. Later on, during
the third period of European genealogical history, 1500, these records began
covering general population.
Being a novice at first on
the subject, I was mainly motivated by my wish to investigate my own family
history and expand, verify and complete my mother’s archival findings based on
earlier research conducted by a great uncle long ago.
In the course of this effort,
I followed both vertical and lateral research principles applied in most family
tree reconstruction
cases so that a spherical and thorough presentation of the
time-space data as well as bonds between the most important Houses be given.
Taken into consideration that
until today there is neither an academic tradition of higher education genealogical studies
nor any established degree of scientific proficiency on the subject, the
professional as the prospective
genealogist would be basically self-taught.
His/her skills should definitely , apart from
solid self-determination include
a deep knowledge of national and international history
the ability to read / decipher manuscripts
a wide experience in family name study
Special reference should be
made to the work of Count Charles Said – Vassallo, a
distinguished man and excellent researcher whose experience and vast data base
decisively contributed to the completion of my quest and the reconstruction of
a family trail as adventurous and exciting, dramatic and unexpected as European
History itself.
