I suppose
you have wondered who this Julius Borg is.
Well I was born in
I retired
in 1991, aged 63 (forced retirement and no one would employ me) and decided
that I needed something to replace the job I held for 45 years in the Travel
Business, where I had to see and talk to people on an every day basis, trying
to sort out their travel requirements.
Having
already started my own family tree a few years, prior to retirement, I decided
to extend the research to all the Maltese of Egypt. I started by compiling the information from the Newsletter
issued in London of the Association of Maltese of Egypt, which gave details of
births, 21st’s, engagements, weddings and deaths of members of our
Community, I had collected these Newsletters since the establishment of the
Association in the U.K. in 1956, after the Suez Crisis. Having collected all the information, I
then started tackling the senior members of our Community, who congregate at
the Melita Social Club, whose premises are fully owned by the Maltese of Egypt
and was established in 1954; this added to the information I already had. Thence I started writing to members of our
Community scattered all over the world, when I could obtain contact addresses
from friends of relatives. Two years
ago I obtained the Internet system and I am contacting people in this much
easier communication system
Unfortunately, as it is only a hobby, I do not
do any official research with the respective departments, such as Consular,
Churches and Government departments.
However, I am always ready to try and help people with problems or
questions they may have about researching their family tree.
