* Ferdinand Castelletti, 1st Barone della Marsa, (Cr:1725), married Claudia Antonia Mompalao, and dsp

Footnote #1: The title of Barone della Marsa was conferred by Grand Master Manoel de Vilhena, by a patent of the 12th June 1725, to the nobleman Ferdinando Castelletti, and to such of his male or female children and successors as the holder of the title in perpetuum should appoint. By the death of Ferdinando without issue the title was extinguished. This title was in 1878 claimed by Alessandro Sceberras D’Amico Inguanez but his claim was dismissed. (See:- Correspondence and Report of the Commission appointed to enquire into the claims and grievances of the Maltese Nobility, May 1878, presented to both Houses of Parliament by Command of Her Majesty (C.-2033.) (See Report Paras. 39-40 AND Paras. 91-96). See also http://www.maltagenealogy.com/SME/marsa.html

Footnote #2: The title of Barone della Marsa conferred by Grand Master Manoel de Vilhena, by a patent of the 12th June 1725 was in 1878 claimed by Alessandro Sceberras DAmico Inguanez but his claim was dismissed as it was found that that title was extinct. Alessandro was only successful in claiming the (foreign) title of Barone di Castel Cicciano . He had also made an unsuccessful attempt for the fiefs of Djar il-Bniet and Buqana (See:- Correspondence and Report of the Commission appointed to enquire into the claims and grievances of the Maltese Nobility, May 1878, presented to both Houses of Parliament by Command of Her Majesty (C.-2033.)

* Gio Antonio Azopardi, 1st Barone della Marsa, (Cr:1753), dunm

Footnote: By another diploma of, bearing date the 4th December 1753, the title of barone della Marsa was granted anew to Giovanni Antonio Azzopardi Castelletti and to one of his descendents, in the same terms as the preceding patent. This second grant was also determined by the death without issue of Giovanni Antonio. (See:- Correspondence and Report of the Commission appointed to enquire into the claims and grievances of the Maltese Nobility, May 1878, presented to both Houses of Parliament by Command of Her Majesty (C.-2033.) * Gio Francesco Dorell., 1st Barone della Marsa (Cr: 1775)., married. Dsp.

Footnote #1: The title of Barone della Marsa was conferred by Grand Master Fr. Emmanuel de Rohan, by a patent dated the 10th March 1775, upon Gio Francesco Dorell Falzon (the third and last grant). This grant was made in the following terms: - Tibi Magnifico ac Nobili D. Joanni Francisco Dorel Falzon tuisque descentibus masculis tribuimus concedimus et donamus, hujusmodique Baronis titulo insignimus, ac Baronem dicti feudi della Marsa constituimus, et ita nominari posse et debere....  The aforesaid Barone Dorell having left on his death no issue, the title of Barone della Marsa, became for the third time extinct. (See:- Correspondence and Report of the Commission appointed to enquire into the claims and grievances of the Maltese Nobility, May 1878, presented to both Houses of Parliament by Command of Her Majesty (C.-2033.) (See Report Paras. 39-40 AND Paras. 91-96).

However in 1878 the Marchesa Maria Francesca Apap (see http://www.maltagenealogy.com/libro%20d'Oro/catena.html ) made a claim to this title, claiming this title as the only surviving daughter of the testamentary heir (Paolo Sceberras) of the said Barone Dorell. But  the 1878 Commissioners held  that Dorell being destitute of any issue, did not, and could not, transmit to Paolo Sceberras, as a collateral, the title of Barone della Marsa, granted only to the male issue of Dorell, by the death of whom it became extinct. Consequently, Paolo Sceberras could not convey that title to the claimant, who, moreover, being a female, would not be comprised in the grant, even if she descended from the said Dorell. The 1878 Commissioners therefore formed the opinion that the Marchesa Maria Francesca Apap failed to establish her right to the title.

Footnote #2: The 1878 Commissioners here indicated that the formula tuisque descentibus masculis tribuimus concedimus et donamus excluded a female from succeeding a title granted in such terms.
