COOK. On October 17, at Mater Dei Hospital, ROSEMARY nee Gatt passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her brother Major Henry Gatt, her sisters Lena Brook and Dowager Countess Margaret Manduca, her nephews and nieces in Malta and abroad and other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.15pm for the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery Chapel where mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3pm followed by interment in the family chapel. Lord grant her eternal rest. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nursing staff at Mater Dei Hospital and all the staff at Roseville residential home for their dedicated care and support.

BORG TESTAFERRATA. On October 8, at Mater Dei Hospital, MONICA, née Wirth, aged 88, passed on peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughter Moyra, wife of Alfred Degiorgio Aquilina, her son Brian, her brothers and sisters Molly, Yvonne Marich, Laurie and his wife Anna, Babs Cutugno, Edgar and his wife Nanette, Risette, her sister-in-law Gladys and brother-in-law Ronnie, her many nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei tomorrow, Wednesday, October 11, at 1.30pm for Jesus of Nazareth Church, The Strand, Sliema, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2pm followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Hospice Movement would be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest. The family thank the staff at Casa Antonia and Gynaecology Ward at Mater Dei Hospital for the love and dedication they showed our mother during her stay there.

DRAGO. On October 4, MAIRIN BRIGID, née McCartin, of Marsa-scala, aged 72, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Henry, her children, Patrick and his wife Deirdre, Marion and her husband Jeremy Brown and her beloved grandchildren Emma, Fionn, Saoirse and Euan; her sister Eileen and her husband Allan Heron; her brother Gerry and his wife Catriona and their families; her late sister Shelagh Galea’s family; her in-laws Joe and his wife Grace, Grace and her husband Joe Zerafa, Freddie Baldacchino, widower of Carmen, née Drago, Anna, widow of Twanny Drago, and their families; all her extended family in Malta and abroad, her many, many friends, neighbours and colleagues at St Edward’s College. A funeral Mass will be said tomorrow, Saturday, October 7, at 9.30am at St Edward’s College, Cottonera. No flowers by request, but, if you wish, donations to the ALS Foundation, Ħamrun, and Hospice Malta, Balzan, will be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest. ATTARD MONTALTO. On September 18, JOSEPHINE, aged 94, passed away peacefully. Loved and remembered by her children Anthony, Marcelline, Christine, Jacqueline and Stephen, spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima parish church, Guardamanġia on Monday, September 25, at 9.30am.

MIZZI

MIZZI. Mgr FORTUNATO MIZZI, only son of former Prime Minister Enrico Mizzi and Bice Vassallo, died on September 8  at the age of 90 at Dar tal-Kleru in Birkirkara. He leaves to mourn his loss his numerous cousins, the members of the Social Action Movement, especially the president, Ms Carmelina Debono, and other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will be held tomorrow, Monday, September 11 at 2pm at the Jesuits church, Valletta, followed by interment in the family vault at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Special thanks go to the Qaddejja tac-Ċenaklu sisters and staff at Dar tal-Kleru for the care and assistance provided to Mgr Mizzi during his nine-year stay at the home. No flowers by request, but donations to Dar tal-Kleru and Qaddejja tac-Ċenaklu and the Social Action Movement would be appreciated.

She leaves to mourn her sad loss her treasured children Igor and Tanya, Igor’s wife Judith, and Tanya’s husband Ian Lowson, her adored grandchildren, Helen, Alastair, Emma, James, Henry and Katherine, and her great-grandchildren, Lucinda, Amelia, Cecelia, Benedict, William, Sapphire, Tirso and Kintyre, her brothers, Edwin, Louis and his wife Gloria, her sister-in-law Mariuccia, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. BORG OLIVIER DE PUGET. On August 8, Magistrate Dr ALBERT EDWARD BORG OLIVIER DE PUGET of Balzan, former Ambassador to Paris and Washington, 23rd Principe de Selimbria, aged 85, went to meet the Risen Lord comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved sisters Rose-Marie and Monica, his cousins, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves his residence in Balzan on Thursday, August 10 at 8am for Our Lady of the Annunciation parish church, Balzan, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 8.30am, followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. PERGOLA – UMBERTO. One month ago, on April 7, died peacefully in his sleep after a long and courageous fight against cancer. Dearly loved husband of Christiane (Muffy), Baroness of Tabria and devoted father to Justine. He will be fondly remembered, sadly mourned and greatly missed by all his family and many friends. Christiane and Justine would like to thank all the staff at Mater Dei Hospital and Semblija for the care and dedication shown to him throughout his illness.

BORG OLIVIER. On January 11, in Queensland, Australia, GEORGE ANTHONY passed away peacefully. He leaves to mourn his loss Marie née Coreschi, his son Simon and his wife Vitoria, his daughter Suzi, his grandchildren, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. A memorial service for George shall be held in Queensland in the next few weeks. He shall be missed immensely by those who were privileged to have met him, but he shall always be present in their hearts. May he rest in peace.

GRIMA. On January 14, Monica Lydia née Azzopardi Preziosi passed away suddenly, comforted by the rites of Holy Church after a long illness bravely borne. CARUANA GATT. On 2nd May, at his home, Thomas, passed away peacefully, aged 80, in the presences of his wife, Elisa and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. Thomas visited Malta in 1980 and visited his many relatives still living in Malta. His son, Geoffrey will succeed to the title of Count of Beberrua as styled being the eldest male descendant of the 1st Count of Beberrua, which was created in 1783 by the Grand Master of Malta.

The former dean of the faculty of law, professor of civil law and president of the Chamber of Advocates, Joseph Ganado, has passed away. He was 90.
Prof. Ganado also served as chairman and member of the council of administration of the Strickland Foundation.
Prof. Ganado was appointed a member of the council by Mabel Strickland in 1979 when she established the Strickland Foundation for specific public benefit purposes. These include the promotion of democratic principles, human rights and journalism. He took over as chairman after the death of Guido de Marco. He stepped down in 2013.

She leaves to mourn her loss her children Babette, Claire, Mark and his wife Cindy, her grandchildren Jennifer and her partner Christopher, Lavinia and her partner Emmanuel, Jean-Marc and Sophie, her great-grandchildren Max and Holly, her sisters Françoise, Maryse and her husband Alain, her brother Louis and his wife Paule, her many nephews and nieces in Malta, Australia and the US, numerous relatives and friends. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Gregory's parish church, Sliema, tomorrow at 2pm, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Ursuline Creche or Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated.
