The Noble Family of Vaccaro which descends through two lines, one which held the fief of Culeja (1397), the other which held the fief of Benuarrat (1397), both fiefs later to converted into the right to receive an annual payment of 12 oncie payable from the Secrezia of Malta equivalent to the fruits of each fief.

This family is listed as a noble family in “Descrittione di Malta” (1647).

This is not a complete genealogy, though we attempt to exhaust all avenues.

 “Ci basterebbe solamente per sapere se questa famiglia sia stata, nobile & antica fra quelle di Malta, leggere i due privilegi, ch’ottenero Pino, & Ingo Vaccaro nel 1397, l’uno a’ 20 di Febraio, e l’altro a’ 24 dello istesso mese in Catania dalli Regi Matrtino d’Aragona, Martino, e Maria di Sicilia; ne’ quali, del primo, concedendsigli il feudo della Coleya in quest’ isola, si dice Regalis excellentia debitum exigit, Ut subiectorum merita aeque dignis premiis recompenset, allorium maxime’, quorum grata fidelitate, obsequra in cospectu regio digno supplicationem Pini Vaccaro de Civitate Meliveti familiaris, & fidelis nostri, Maeistatibus nostris inde factam, attendentes fidem pura’, & devotionem sinceram, quas dictus Pinus erga excellentias nostras gesit, & gerit, grata quoq; & accepta servitia, per eundem Pinum Celsitudinibus nostris devote collate, praesertim in reducendo nouiter ad nostrae dominium Maiestatis dictam Civitatem Meliveti, detentam tunc & existentem sub dominio quondam Guillelmi Raimundi di Montecateno, etc, attendentes, notissima damna, exilu, et iacturas, qua dictus Pinus pro observantia nostrae fidei et perpessus, dictam Civitatate eius Patriam, cum suis amplis facultatibus in eadem existentibus, relinquedo, eleerit potius sub nostra fidelitate exul degree, quam ipsius Artalis detestando facinori consentire, etc. E del 2. rimeritandolo co’ l feudo di Benuarrat, posto in Malta si legge Animentur ad obsequendu serventinus corda fideliu subiectoru, cum eorum merita, regalis munificeentia, aque dignis premiis compensate. Per praesens igitur privilegiu notu sit, etc. quod ad humilem supplicatione’ per delictum Consiliarium, familiarem, & fidelem nostru Ingum Vaccaro militem de Civitate Meliveti Maestatibus nostris inde factam attendentes fidem puram, & devotionem sinceram, quas dictus Ingus erga Excellentias nostra, gessit, & gerit, grata quoq, & accepta servitia per dictu Ingum Celsitudinibus nostris devote collate, praseertim nouiter in reductione dicta Civitatis, & Insula Meliveti ad nostra dominiu Maiestatis, subiogo, et dominio quonda Guillelmi de Montecateno in nepharia, & c . tunc existents, & detentas; attendentes, nec minus damna, exilium & iacturas, qua dictus Ingus pro alservantia nostra fidei est perpessus, dictam eius patriam dudum per Artalem de Alagona nostrum nepharium, & c violenta tirannide occupatam, cum suis amplis facultatibus in ea existetibus relinquendo, eligens potius sub fidelitatate nostra exul degree, quam sub ipsius Artalis infesto dominio permanere, &c Da I quali celebri & uguali enomij, costando cosi’ bene delle nobili ualita’ non meno, che della fedelta’ di questi due generosi nostri Maltesi, (chiari splendorsi alla propria famiglia, come a’ tutta la Patria) non ci occorre soggiugner altro all’ attestatione irrefraabile di quei Serenissimi Regni, che paslarcene ora al racconto della successione in detti due feudi. L’una, e l’altra gratia de’ quali per aluni motive havuti in quel tempo venne amoderarsi in oncie dodici di rendita, che fu’ assegnata in feudo sopra questa secrezia in Malta per ogn’ uno de suddetti Pino, & Ingo, equivalente a’ quello, ch’ allora fruttava ciascuno di essi feudi, ma al presente disuualissima, rendendlo la Coleya scudi 1100 e Benuarrat 800, un’ anno per l’altro. A Pino dunque successe Angelo suo figliuolo maggiore, che’ fu’ investito nel feudo, come si ravvis per privilegio dato in Catania a’ 21 di Agosto 1408. Nel 1479 per morte del Re’ Gio apparisce ch’ habbia reso il fedeomaggio un Angelo Vaccaro, ne par verisimile che sia stato l’istesso figluolo di Pino, ma’ piu’ tosto altro discendente , attesi gl’anni tramezzati dal 1408 fino al 1479, benche non sia affatto impossibile. Indi successe Giacomo, che fu’ figlio dal predetto Angelo. Giacomo poscia per donatione, transferi’ il feudo in un suo figliuolo nominato parimente Angelo, in occasione di suo sponsalitio, come negl atti di Luca Sillato l’anno 1421 dandosigli dal Vicere’ Lupo Ximenes d’Urrea l’investitura, con insertione del primo privilegio del Re’ Martino, in Siracusa a’ 9 di Giugno 1459. Da Angelo fu’ procreato Pietro, a’ cui successe caterina sua figlia & erede, e come che fu’ l’ultima della linea di Pino, e moglie d’ Antonio Falsone, pass oil feudo ne’ suoi figli, e famiglia, che percio’ n’hebbe l’investitura. In quanto poi tocca all’ altra linea, e discendenza d’Ingo, apparisce nel regio cabreo, che morto lui, sia succedeto Giovanni suo figluolo nell’ altro feudo d’assignatione delle dodici oncie, e per morte di questo, incontriamo successore con Investitura Lanza de’ Vaccaro suo figliuolo, & erede, che poscia mancando il Re’ Giovanni fu’ investito dal Vicere’ Gio di Moncata allora governante a’ 9 di Luglio 1462. Morto Lanza nel 1480 subentro’ Giovanni suo figliuolo, e prese parimente l’investitura dal Vicere’ Gasparo Despes a’ 2 di Giugno del medesimo anno. A Giovanni, che fini’ la vita senza prole, successe Chicca de Vaccaro sua sorella, ultima discendente per maschio dalla linea di Ingo, e n’ottenne l’investitura dalli Presidenti allora del Regno a’ 16 di Gennaio 1484, & essendo ella stata moglie di Nardo de Bordino, passo’ il feud one I figli di lui, con regia licenza, ed investiture. Gl’huomini, poi, che di questa famiglia ritroviamo haver essercitati officij, e carichi della nostra Citta’ sono. Primieramente Ingo Vaccaro Miles e Civitate Miveti, e co’ l titolo di regio Consigliere, vien eletto Capitano di Malta, e sostituito a’ Francesco Gio di S. Colomba (della cui casa son hoggi I Signori Conti d’Alnello) dal Re’ Martino, che gli haveva dato questo carico per Cinque anni nel 1403. Angelo che fu’ Giurato nel 1405, & 1420. Giovanni Giurato nel 1415, 1419 & 1434. IN questo medesimo anno egli vien eletto da questa Universita’ Ambasciatore alli Viceregi all’ ora di Sicilia Antonio di Cardona, Ferdinando Velazquez, e Don Martino di Torres Nuntio, e Collettore Apostolico in detto Regno. Pietro Giurato ne; 1469, 1473 & 1478. Angelo Giurato nel 1472, 1481 & 1490. Milite Giacomo de Vaccaro of Catania., Signore of several Fiefdoms in Catania, Sicily.., married to Antonella de Bava., with issue.
